Christmas Celebrations 2024: Quad Biking & Clay Pigeon Shooting

Our 2024 Christmas celebration took the Sustainable Energy Engineering team away from installations, surveys and day-to-day project work for a team day at Allout Adventures, combining quad biking with clay pigeon shooting.

Why We Chose an Activity Day
Most of our year is structured around customers, technical surveys, design work, installations, commissioning and aftercare. Christmas gave us the opportunity to change the pace completely and do something where nobody was looking at a roof plan, inverter screen or installation schedule.
An outdoor activity day worked because it gave everyone something to take part in rather than simply sitting around a table. It also gave the team time together in a setting where the only targets were the clay pigeons.
Quad Biking: Mud, Trails and Friendly Competition
The day started with quad biking. The original article remembers the forest trails, twists and turns and the inevitable mud. It was the kind of activity where confidence builds quickly, but everybody still has a reason to pay attention.
Allout Adventures continues to list adult quad biking among its current activities, operating from the Pursuits Centre at Slaley Hall near Hexham. For our team in 2024, it provided a completely different kind of challenge from the work we normally do across the North East.
Clay Pigeon Shooting: A Different Kind of Accuracy
After the quads, we moved on to clay pigeon shooting. Under guidance from the venue team, everyone had the chance to test their aim, share tips and cheer the successful shots — with plenty of good-natured reaction to the near misses as well.
The activity was competitive enough to keep things interesting without losing the point of the day: spending time together and enjoying the end-of-year break.
The Part That Mattered Most
The best part of the day was not a scorecard. It was having the full team together away from work, with enough activity to keep everybody involved and enough downtime to talk and laugh properly.
Teamwork Looks Different Away from a Solar Installation
On site, teamwork is practical and often time-sensitive: people need to communicate clearly, keep one another safe and understand how their work affects the next stage of the job. A team day strips away the technical pressure but still brings out many of the same qualities.
People encourage each other, share what they have learned and help make the experience better for everyone around them. That is one reason days like this matter to us.
