Solar electric or PV systems work by converting sunlight into electricity, within the solar panel. PV cells are semiconductor devices that convert sunlight directly into electricity. Direct sun produces the most power, but even on cloudy days some electricity is generated. The electricity produced is direct current (DC) and is connected, via DC isolating switches to an inverter which converts the DC electricity into alternating current (AC) of a quality acceptable to the national grid.

The AC side is connected, via lockable AC isolators to the total generation meter, which monitors every kilowatt-hour (kWh) produced by the system, to allow Feed in Tariff (FIT) payments to be claimed.

As there are no moving parts in a PV system, they require minimal maintenance and have the ability to work long past their FIT payment period of 25 years, in fact having an expected life of over 40 years.

All systems and PV panels that we install are MCS accredited and therefore qualify for FIT payments.

Solar Panels

The most important feature of a solar electric system is the solar panel that powers it. Here at Sustainable Energy Engineering, we work with all major panel manufacturers. Our most popular brands are:

Solar Inverters

After the solar panels, the most important part in any solar electric (PV) system, is the solar inverter. This changes the direct current (DC) from the photovoltaic array into alternating current (AC) of the correct voltage and frequency, to allow it to be connected, via a distribution board, into the national grid.

All of our inverters comply with the G83 standard, which also makes it mandatory for a grid tied inverter, to disconnect from the grid in the event of power loss, therefore protecting any linesmen working on the system.

We install SMA, SolaX, Samil Power, Solar Edge, Enphase and Fronius Inverters.
