Energy Efficiency

The most cost effective way to reduce energy costs for any building, is to make the best use of energy used, by reducing lost or wasted energy.

Figures provided by the EST show that :
• up to 26% of heat lost from an uninsulated home is through the roof;
• heat lost via walls can be up to 33%;
• energy efficient light bulbs use a quarter of the electricity of old-fashioned tungsten-filament lamps;
• Heating controls can further reduce energy lost to space-heating by 17%

To qualify for a Low Carbon Buildings Programme grant, to assist with costs, to install Renewable Energy Systems such as Solar Hot Water Panels, Solar Photovoltaic Electricity, Wind Turbines and Ground Source Heat Pumps the specific measures below must be in place :

Roof Insulation

1. Insulate the whole of the loft of the property to meet current building regulations e.g. 270mm of loft insulation

Cavity Wall Insulation

2. Install cavity wall insulation (if you have cavity walls)

Low Energy Light Bulbs and Fittings

3. Fit low energy light bulbs in all appropriate light fittings

Heating System Controls

4. Install basic controls for your heating system to include a room thermostat and a programmer or timer.

We can offer a turnkey solution to install all of these measures for a very competitive price, after grants, of £1099.00* (inc VAT). *Price is based upon a typical 3 bedroom semi-detached home and quotations can be tailored to the specific needs of each home.

Payback for these measures based on EST Savings assumptions would equate to approximately 3-5 years, but will significantly increase your homes energy efficiency rating, making it cheaper to run, reducing Carbon emissions and more appealing to potential buyers. (See Home Energy Inspections)

Grants are available for all home-owners on benefits or over the age of 60. Also those under the age of 60 in fulltime work, irrespective of income are eligible for some grant funding from most energy suppliers.
